Film Music Masterclass
Beginning in June 2022 Alastair, in collaboration with FAMES Institute, devised and ran a unique week-long course for orchestral performers and composers.
The aim of the course is to help young performers understand the requirements of media recording in the studio, appreciate the process a composer goes through to produce the work and collaborate closely with the composers helping them to realise their music. For the composers it is a rare opportunity to work closely with performers without the normal time-pressures in a studio, to develop trust and positive working relationships and to appreciate the benefits real players can add in bringing their scores to life. The music is then recorded by the professional team at FAMES studio allowing all participants to hear and see the finished work.
Hollywood in Vienna
In September 2011 Alastair was a special guest of Hollywood in Vienna and the International Film Music Symposium. While he was in Vienna Alastair gave three well-received lectures to film music enthusiasts and music students. As well as performing in the Gala Concert he spent time meeting fans, posing for photos and signing everything from CD booklets through to i-Pods and even a conductor’s baton!

Alastair has also given Lectures and Masterclasses at the Royal College of Music, The University of Exeter, Bath Spa University, The University of Bangor, the National Film and Television School and the Film Scoring Academy of Europe.
