CONDUCTOR

Alastair is a regular conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of London (COOL) and has conducted many other orchestras and choirs including BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales, London Symphony Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, BBC Concert Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, BBC Singers, London Session Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Metro Voices, RSVP Voices, the Bach Choir, the Choir of the King’s Consort, London Philharmonic Choir, Vienna ORTF and Munich Radio Orchestra.

 

As well as conducting a huge range of TV, film and commercial sessions, Alastair has also conducted concert works of his own and other contemporary composers.

Alastair also conducted the music for the Channel 4 drama ANY HUMAN HEART which went on to win the BAFTA for Television Soundtrack, an Ivor Novello Award and two EMMY nominations. Composer Dan Jones paid tribute to Alastair in his BAFTA interview.

In September 2023 Alastair curated and conducted Doctor Who @ 60: A Musical Celebration.  Performing with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the BBC Singers the live concert was broadcast on both BBC Radio 2 and BBC Four.

Alastair conducted the Vienna ORTF Orchestra in a tribute to Harry Potter.  This Gala Concert was attended by a 2,000 sell-out audience and televised by ATV.

In November 2016 Alastair conducted the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the BBC National Chorus of Wales in the first three performances of Cian Ciarán’s Rhys & Meinir, an epic orchestral work based on the Welsh legend of doomed love. Cian, a member of Super Furry Animals, spent almost two decades developing the piece which was enthusiastically received by audiences in Cardiff and Bangor.
